Installing on Linux (openSUSE)
These instructions apply to both openSUSE Leap and openSUSE Tumbleweed.
Prerequisites
Install the WebKit2GTK library, which Semantic Modeler uses for its UI:
sudo zypper install webkit2gtk3-devel
Option A: .rpm Package (Recommended)
Download
Head to the Downloads page and grab the .rpm package (semantic-modeler-<version>.x86_64.rpm).
Install
sudo zypper install ./semantic-modeler-*.x86_64.rpm
Updates
The .rpm package does not update automatically. Download the latest .rpm from the Downloads page and install it with the same zypper install command.
Uninstall
sudo zypper remove semantic-modeler
Option B: AppImage
The AppImage is a self-contained package that updates automatically.
Download
Head to the Downloads page and grab the AppImage (SemanticModeler.AppImage).
Install
- Make the AppImage executable:
chmod +x SemanticModeler.AppImage
- Run it:
./SemanticModeler.AppImage
On first launch, the AppImage registers itself in your application menu so you can find it like any other app.
Tip
You can verify your download by comparing the SHA-256 hash on the Downloads page:
sha256sum SemanticModeler.AppImage
Updates
The AppImage checks for updates automatically. When an update is available, you'll see a dialog asking if you'd like to restart to apply it.
Wayland
If you're on a Wayland session and notice issues with window icons or rendering, try launching with X11:
GDK_BACKEND=x11 ./SemanticModeler.AppImage
Or, if you installed via the .rpm package:
GDK_BACKEND=x11 semantic-modeler
