Activating Your License
After purchasing a license, you need to activate it on each machine where you use Semantic Modeler. There are two ways to do this.
Option 1: Sign In (Easiest)
- Open Semantic Modeler.
- Go to Settings > License.
- Click Sign In.
- Your browser opens the Fact Foundry sign-in page. Log in with the email associated with your license.
- After signing in, you're returned to the app and your license activates automatically.
Your session is cached, so you won't need to sign in again unless you explicitly sign out.
Option 2: Enter a License Key
- Open Semantic Modeler.
- Go to Settings > License.
- Click Enter License Key.
- Paste your key and click Activate.
For organizations, your admin can provide a master key instead of individual keys. There are two types:
- Standard Master Key: Activates a standard-tier seat
- AI Master Key: Activates a seat with hosted AI features enabled
Each use of a master key consumes one seat from your organization's pool. See License Types for details on seat limits.
Note
If your admin regenerates a master key, the old key stops working immediately for new activations. Machines already activated are not affected.
Checking Your License Status
After activation, Settings > License shows:
- Your license type
- Expiry date
- AI features status (enabled or disabled)
- How many machines are active on your license
Deactivating a Machine
To free up a seat for a different machine:
- Go to Settings > License.
- Click Deactivate This Machine.
You can also deactivate machines remotely from the Fact Foundry portal.
Offline Use
If your machine can't reach the license server (no internet, traveling, etc.), Semantic Modeler continues to work for up to 7 days using its last successful validation. After 7 days without a connection, you'll need to go online and relaunch the app to revalidate.
Free Trial
Semantic Modeler starts a 30-day free trial on first launch. No registration or credit card required. The trial is fully functional with no feature restrictions. You can activate a license at any time during or after the trial.
